Is a night cream really a necessary or even beneficial part of a regular skin care regimen? We get asked this question quite a lot by clients when performing skin care product demonstrations or training for spa therapists here in Thailand. Surely, you’ve asked yourself this same question at some stage.

No matter what product we talk about, there will always be skeptics who try to say that some spa products or skin care products are simply a waste of money. There are many sources out there that will tell you not to waste your money on a night cream and that they are unnecessary or even ineffective.  This is not quite true.

As many Aestheticians and Skin Care specialists testify, a night cream is a very beneficial step to any skin care regimen!

Here are some of the benefits of using a night cream:

Repairing and Regenerating

While you sleep, your body releases hormones that promote healing from within and your skin works hard to regenerate and repair itself.  Night creams are especially formulated with lots of active ingredients and nutrients that are meant to stimulate cell renewal and help the skin regenerate itself.  Night creams are loaded with essential vitamins, hydrating ingredients and anti-aging ingredients that are absorbed through the skin so that your skin is repairing and regenerating itself from the inside-out as well as the outside-in while you sleep.

Your skin loses a lot of its moisture during the night.  You perspire in your sleep and your pillows and sheets also absorb a lot of the moisture from your skin.  When you are dehydrated, your skin will begin to show signs of premature and accelerated aging.  Night creams are much thicker than day creams supply you with more nutrients while you sleep as well as repair your skin. They also provide your skin with a protective layer to lock in moisture.  This not only helps improve the hydration of your skin, but also improves softness and suppleness.

In your late twenties to early thirties, your skin slowly begins to show the signs of aging.  As you age, your fine lines become more visible, and your skin loses some of its hydration and the elasticity in the skin that keeps your skin firm.  A thick, nutrient-enriched night cream applied during the night to your face can help hydrate and repair the skin.  Most commonly found night creams contain ingredients that also promote the development of collagen while maintaining the elasticity of the skin.  This will slow down the signs of fine lines, wrinkles as well as other signs of aging.

To sum up, there are several benefits of using a good quality night cream, and a quality night cream does not have to cost a lot of money in order to be effective.  If you want your skin to look its best throughout the natural aging process, consider adding a night cream to your daily skin care regimen!
